Tent Camping California

Welcome to Prairie Dog RV And Camping

Kick back, breathe deep, savor the silence. Experience pristine desert sunsets, moonlit sands and breathtaking mountainous views. The stars in the night sky, definitely worth the price of admission!

Where you’ll be heading

Enjoy the peace and quiet of these surroundings. It's truly a relaxing experience to take in. Homes here are sparsely spread out and there is a private family owned air-strip a few blocks up to the north. Neighborhoods like ours allow you to really appreciate the openness, with sweeping panoramic views of open desert set on 2.5 acres of private land. Take in the mountainous scenery of Joshua Tree National Park, the Marine Base sand dune mountains to the north and the eastern expanse into Wonder Valley.

We are a dual campground set up with two separate Campsites(#1, 2) adequately spaced apart for privacy on 3 acres of raw desert land. We encourage interested guests to take a look at both of our campsite listings to see which campsite suits you and your group best.

Our campground offers the basic essentials to a fun camping experience. We are an off-grid, dry campground, but still offer the following:

We offer

  • shared porta potty unit-equipped with: water pump sink, toilet paper, paper towel, baby wipes, first aid kit, air freshener sensor light, fire extinguisher.

  • propane fire pit

  • charcoal grill

  • food prep table

  • wood post hammock/Campsite#1

  • trash receptacle

  • picnic table

  • outdoor furniture

NOTE:

Campsite #1 sits adjacent to a lightly graveled circular dirt driveway. Very easy to pull on and off of for all sized RV vehicles. Caters for Tent Camping as well.

Campsite #2 is for Tent Camping ONLY. NO RVs

This is a Private Campground for individually booked camping groups who can pick between two different campsites to book.
These are not shared camping spaces but two individual sites adequately distanced apart for privacy.

During

your stay

  • At Campsite #1, RV Guests are welcome to utilize and fit their vehicles in our gravel parking area to however they conveniently see fit for their recreation. We welcome all size RVs and Trailers. Typically RV Class A-C vehicles fit well in the Campsite #1 parking space by doing a straight ahead pull-in. RV Trailers are better suited to sit their trailers on the 64' diagonal to the site or doing a back in between the Charcoal Grill and Trash Bin. These positions mentioned allow RV passenger-side door entrances to face out for southern exposure toward the Joshua Tree Park mountains for preferred scenery. Please refer to our site map in our Gallery!

Tent Campers have a marked designated area to set up their tents, but are also free to use other ground spaces within proximity to the main site if they prefer. There's plenty of space in general for campers to spread out if they choose to.

  • From our campground location, enjoy the convenience of close access to everything Twentynine Palms City Center(5 mins away) has to offer(restaurants, shops, cafes, etc) and the East Entrance to Joshua Tree National Park(10-12 mins away) on Utah Trail Rd.

We advise turning south onto Prairie Dog Ave off of Amboy Rd. Please do not take any GPS direction turning off of Highway 62/Twentynine Palms Highway going North.

Just a little heads up...there is one block of dirt road right before reaching the entrance to my property that is just a little bumpy, but totally fine for all vehicles to handle.

Once on the property, feel free to use the circular driveway and Parking/RV Slip however way you wish-depending on how many vehicles are in your party.

We are happy to Host all Class A, RV vehicles and trailers up to 45' ft in length.

  • We STRONGLY advise NOT to do any kind of off-roading exploration in the neighborhood or else you do run a very good risk of getting stuck in the sand!! Please stay on all dirt road paths coming to and leaving the campground!

Please keep all pets on a leash at all times. There is wildlife in the area include coyotes, so we remind our guests not to have your pets wander off alone. Also be sure to pick up after your furry friends.

Daytime temps in the summer climb over the 110 degree mark. Bring plenty of Water!!! It is the desert obviously, and constant hydration is a must. In the winter it can be quite cold at night. Sometimes freezing for a week at a time. Winter storms and Summer monsoons are also something to be aware of when planning to camp in the High Desert. Flash flooding can also get you stranded. Please use The National Weather Service to gauge your camping weather
